There are some key differences between cyber security, cyber awareness and cyber safety. Cyber security focuses on the protection of computers, networks, programs and data through robust computer science technology and systems, whereas, cyber awareness focuses on building the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours in protecting personal information and assets. Lastly, cyber safety encompasses managing and collaborating online both in a safe and responsible manner. Additionally, as a pre-service teacher, I believe that it is important to teach students about what is meant by cyber security, cyber awareness and cyber safety in order for the students to successfully and appropriately engage with the Australian Curriculum subject of Digital Technologies and the ICT capabilities. Thus, as the usage of technology is becoming increasingly more popular through both the school grounds and outside of school, the awareness and understanding of each of these aspects is vital. During my recent prac experience I was able to actually teach the students of my class about cyber awareness and the importance of keeping their personal information private. Adding onto this, I think that it is important that all of these aspects should be taught within all classes in order to promote safe, responsible and enjoyable online learning environments.
