Unit 3 – Task (Option 1)

Unit 3 Task: Option 1

What are other ways humans can leave traces of information with the use of technologies?

Another way that I am aware of is through the app called SnapChat. SnapChat has a feature, SnapMap, that shows your little digital self on a photo realistic map of your town, state, country and world. SnapChat knows exactly where you are as soon as you open the app. It is important for parents that they are aware of this feature and make sure if they are allowing their child to download SnapChat, SnapMap is disabled upon initial account creation.

Another way is by accessing password protected websites (bank account, pay pal etc) through public wifi systems. Public wifi systems do not have good protection systems against hackers and should never be used for any websites that require a secure login.

“One of the dangers of using a public Wi-Fi network is that data over this type of open connection is often unencrypted and unsecured, leaving you vulnerable to a man-in-the-middle (MITM) attack. Essentially, this gives a hacker access to sniff out any information that passes between you and the websites you visit — details of browsing activities, account logins, and purchase transactions. Your sensitive information, such as passwords and financial data, are then vulnerable to identity theft.” https://us.norton.com/internetsecurity-wifi-why-hackers-love-public-wifi.html
