Classroom activities can be a good way to learn about representation. Year One student’s can be asked what their favourite colour is, and make a circle of that colour to represent that colour. As a class, students can build a bar graph on a whiteboard and brainstorm a title for charts. They can then stick matching colours into rows. From these charts, students will be able to identify the most popular and least popular colour in the class, amongst other information. This is a very easy and simple way to tach students how to represent and interpret data on a chart.
