What other interesting examples of codes from history or the modern-day (digital or non-digital) can you find to inspire or support a lesson about encoding and decoding messages?
Morse Code is a great historical code for kids to learn and become comfortable with understanding and decoding codes. The Morse Code alphabet could be used to get students to write their name or a secret message to a partner who will then need to decipher the message. Older students could also use Morse Code as a part of a unit and create switch boards to communicate messages using a light like the video below. This is a great way to incorporate design and technology as well.
