I will be completing option 2 of the unit 2 tasks, Share with the community a way you would like to introduce networks into the classroom to make it tangible or visible for primary students. It could be using a resource you have found or your own idea or thoughts.
I thought that a good way to introduce networks in a visual and engaging way could be to pass a ball of string between students (so that each student holds a piece of string from the ball). The teacher can take a photo of the string network and pop it up on the board to show the students. A discussion can result from this about the network they have created. This can then be transferred to different contexts, for example, calling and texting people or travelling from one place to another via public transport. The teacher can explain to the students that the network in these different contexts is the same process as the string network they created but is visually different.
PS: I did not put a picture in as the one I wanted to use was too big.
