What other interesting examples of codes from history or the modern-day (digital or non-digital) can you find to inspire or support a lesson about encoding and decoding messages?
Arguably one of the most iconic and revolutionary examples of codes from history would be the story of Alan Turing and the second World War. Much like Caesar’s Cipher, the German Army used a code creating machine called “enigma” to encrypt their messages so as to not be intercepted. The modern film “The Immitaiton Game” presents the work of Alan Turing and the pivotal role that he and his team of code breakers played in cracking “enigma” and ending the war.
