An interesting example of codes throughout history are the encrypted codes used throughout the World Wars to ensure plans and messages that were intercepted during the Wars were not used against the senders. Both encoders and decoders were hired to create and unencrypt these messages. Alan Turing, creator of the Turing Machine was one such man in the British army who invented a machine to decrypt these messages. A loose telling of Turing’s biography can be seen in The Imitation Game.
