Create or find a classroom resource that teaches students about creating strong passwords, passcodes or passphrases.
This lesson plan supports students in years 3-5 in understanding the importance of creating strong passwords. Students are first engaged through a class discussion around the students’ online accounts and passwords. They then participate in a guessing game where they are required to create “passwords” that a partner will try to guess. The teacher sets a limitation on how many characters students may have in their password. This may then inform some great discussions on the questions ‘Do you think one type of password will be harder to guess? Why?’, which will then open up the opportunity for a discussion around real-life scenarios and cyber security.
