Unit 3 – Task 1

We have shared a few examples of how information can be extracted from data (such as in your images). What are other ways humans can leave traces of information with the use of technologies? Share an example or examples with the community.

One way in which humans can leave traces of information with the use of digital technologies is through our search history. Our web browser keeps a list of what websites we were accessed and what time and date we were on these websites. While this can be cleared, it is still visible to the website you visited and search engines like Google. Sites like Google can keep your search information. Many websites have HTTP cookies which stores your browsing data and remembers information about you.

When we create account on websites/social media, we leave traces of our personal information. For example, when you create a Facebook account you enter your date of birth and what town/city you are from. Furthermore, many social media apps have location services and can track where you are, even if you don’t share this with your friends/followers.
