Basic Definitions

Cyber Security – the practices involved in protecting cyber technology from digital attacks (ie. firewalls)

Cyber Safety – safe and responsible use of cyber technology (ie. creating strong passwords)

Cyber Awareness – learning and knowledge about cyber technology and implementing it when using it.

Cybersecurity is not often taught in school, however, it is discussed and basic ideas should be taught. It is important for students to understand how cybersecurity measures work and why they are important and have basic skills in this area. Cyber safety is key in education and by teaching cyber awareness children are able to be cyber safe online. Teachers can promote this by encouraging students to learn about what information should be private and what can be public, how to create strong passwords, and how to identify unsafe online. cyber behavior.
