Key differences and classroom use

Cyber security is technology that protects you and your devices from malware, people or programs that are trying to get access to your information and use it for their own purpose.

Cyber awareness, is about people being aware and having the knowledge of what can go wrong when they use technology and how they should use that technology wisely.

Cyber safety is about what people can do to protect themselves when using technology for example installing cyber security such as firewalls.

When it comes to children, teachers would mostly be talking about cyber awareness and cyber safety to ensure children are aware of what can go wrong when they use the internet, what things to look out for and what measures to take to protect themselves when using the internet. It is important for children to understand that once something is on the internet it is there forever you might have hit the delete button but still that information is floating around somewhere.

Don’t do or say anything on the internet that you wouldn’t say or do in person.

Verify the information you are reading is from a reliable source, anyone can create a website stating the things written on there are fact. Beware of websites or e-mails asking for personal information or account information. Finally it is not enough to inform students, parents should be in on this conversation as well, not all of them will be aware of what can happen on the internet.
