Unit 3: Task

We have shared a few examples of how information can be extracted from data (such as in your images). What are other ways humans can leave traces of information with the use of technologies? Share an example or examples with the community.

Zenly’s interface

Social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are popular among students in this day and age. There are a lot of data shared on those sites and thus, it is important for students to discern the information they should and should not share online. However, with the advancements in technology, there are many ways students can put themselves in danger.

One such way is through the popular application called Zenly. Zenly is an application that allows the user to share their location to their friends and even strangers. This could pose the potential risk of kidnapping and/or sexual abuse cases as the real time location allows strangers to stalk the users. Not only that, the app also allows users to find out their friends’ battery life. We might think this is unnecessary information but students enjoy using applications like this. Hence, we need to educate students that traces of information can be retrieved easily with the use of technology.
