One example of codes from history I would love to teach my students is Morse Code. This is a different take on coding but still teaches children to associate different keys or sounds to letters in order to decipher. A group could write a message to another group in Morse Code using both dots and dashes written down and also with the sounds and then the second group would have to decode.
