Unit 2 – Cyber – security, awareness and safety

Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting systems, networks, and programs from digital attacks. These cyberattacks are usually aimed at accessing, changing, or destroying sensitive information; extorting money from users; or interrupting normal business processes.

The basics should be learnt – different types of accounts / permissions, antivirus, firewalls etc.

Cyber security awareness refers to how much end users know about the cyber security threats their networks face and the risks they introduce.
This comes through knowing the basics of cyber security.
Cybersafety is the safe and responsible use of information and communication technology. It is about keeping information safe and secure, but also about being responsible with that information, being respectful of other people online, and using good ‘netiquette’ (internet etiquette).
This can be taught in the classroom under the ‘collaboration and management of digital projects’ criteria. There are a lot of useful lessons that cover areas like cyber bullying in this area as well.
