UNIT 4 TASK
What are some student-friendly “scam scenarios” that you could use in the classroom for encouraging students to critically think about messages they receive? Create your own “fake scam” to share with the community so they can try and spot the tell-tale signs!
This could be a really fun and engaging activity for students. Most high school students have had online presence and probably encountered some suspicious emails, messages and so on.
I would create an activity where we go through a list of scenarios, for example a phone call asking for tax file numbers and have the students vote on ‘scam’ or ‘not scam’. There are extensive resources that show people how to spot a scam (like https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/about-scamwatch/tools-resources/online-resources/spot-the-scam-signs), which would be beneficial to go through with the students.
