There are many ways that people can leave traces of information they may not intend to distribute using technology. Two examples are:
- GPS: Dependant on your settings, apps will always track your information to provide you with personalised experiences and advertisements compared to whether you are in a different location. Your phone may suggest restaurants which you would like to visit in a city you are planning to travel to before you travel to it.
- Public Wi-Fi: As each devices uses its own MAC address, this leaves to a trace of information left on a public Wi-Fi. As you give an email and name when joining this network, the router will record the MAC address of the device, which could be accessed by the owner of the router to mine more information dependant on where else your MAC address has been.
