Task 4 – Question 1


It is so important to equip students with the knowledge and skills to identify and protect themselves against a scam. A student-friendly scam scenario that could be given to students in a classroom setting to teach them these critical thinking skills is below.  Students could be asked to identify the give-aways that the following email is a scam:

“Name: IPHOONEE13!

Subject: ANSWER&WIN!

Email: WIN a brand new IPHONE 13! Click here to answer this quiz to claim your free iPhone!”

Students should spot:

  • Spelling errors
  • Use of all capitals
  • No company name attached
  • Lucrative offer (free iPhone)
  • Request to click a link

Students should be taught to delete any suspicious emails without opening or clicking anything.
