I find the topic of intellectual property and copyright quite interesting.
I have chosen to include some resources on sampling, and the legal obligations of artists who sample music.
The Avalanche’s album Since I Left You released in the year 2000, was famously said to contain 3500 samples. (Streader, 2018).
This video illustrates how several samples were constructed to create the title track. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYU1HwqCqvk
Here two members talk about sampling and define it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cV09PzfvqE
Here is the single “Frontier Psychiatrist” from the album. How many different samples can you find?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLrnkK2YEcE
These days there are tools to help artists track samples they use, although they are not free https://www.tracklib.com/licensing
What do you think is a fair use when it comes to sampling?
