Explain what you think are some of the key differences between cyber security, cyber awareness, and cyber safety. To what extent are you teaching these in the classroom, or do you think they should be taught?
Cyber security focuses more on the protection of the technology itself such as the networks, computers/devices and programs while, cyber safety and awareness is related to user behaviours in protecting our information and assets and how to use safety.
- Cyber Security uses computer science technology and systems to make due the computer, network programs and data is protected against things like virus and cyber-attacks on all devices, e.g. laptops to mobile phones.
- Cyber awareness involves being aware of dangers when browsing through the networks and having strong passwords and protecting our information and assets by knowing what information you shouldn’t share on the internet.
- Cyber Safety involves collaborating online safely and thinking how to manage your safety while online. This can be achieved by citing and crediting original works and thoroughly thinking about what we post on the internet and managing our digital footprint.
Our children’s generation involves technology being used every day, at home, in public and at school. It is imperative that we teach these main cyber topics in the classroom to ensure students are knowledgeable of how they can protect themselves online, managing their own digital footprints and how their data is being secured against cyber network.
