Cybersecurity is the protection of computer systems, programs, data and networks from information disclosure, theft of or damage, as well as from the disruption or misdirection of the services provided via computer science technology and systems. Skilled professionals are employed to design these technology and systems while strong testing procedures are carried out to prevent attacks. Innovations such as biosecurity or artificial intelligence are applied while secure technology and systems are maintained. The end goal is to protect data and information, be it the integrity and privacy of data or securing from harm of loss due to intruders or unpredictable cyber-security factor such as accidental introduction of malware.
Cyber Awareness is the awareness and initiative to build and enhance our knowledge, attitudes and behaviours in protecting our information and assets. Basic steps such as creating strong and unpredictable password with two factor authentication are a sign of awareness and acknowledging that there are factors out there that are threatening the security of our information in this cyber space (cyberattack). Users should also be aware that online data is permanent and they should always be conscious of the use and misuse of data while keeping up to date with relevant policies and procedures.
Cyber Safety is where users manage and collaborate online safely and responsibly. Users should understand that behind every screen is a real life human being – flesh and blood with real emotions and feelings. Users should share any information thoughtfully while citing original authors showing respect to people and their rights, collaborate responsibly while applying a code of ethics. Users should also be aware and consider the digital footprints they will have while being careful with all the devices and tools that they use and apply all relevant safety settings.
