A scam-related activity that I’d love to run with my students is looking at dubious online stores. I would use this activity as part of the English unit that many teachers run with Year 7 classes on advertising. I’d have to make up a fake website or take screenshots to keep my students safe from actually interacting with such websites. Tell-tale signs that I would focus on would be
- photos stolen from legitimate shops/Instagram
- Overly cheap prices/deep cuts to prices
- Pressure sales (e.g. 12 hr sales, individual coupon codes)
- Errors in spelling and grammar
