Unit 2: Task (Q3)

Q3: Share an activity idea or classroom resource that you have found online or created yourself that involves primary students exploring private and public information sharing.

For primary school aged students, I like the idea of teaching the concept of private vs public in a more general and tangible sense. The following website gives some good example of how to teach public vs private places, and then moves forward to the concept of private vs public behaviours.

Once the students have a grasp of the concept of public vs private, I then believe it is easier for the students to understand the concept of public vs private information sharing. Which when shared online, leaves behind no “physical” trace of the evidence, yet is still stored somewhere in the ever mysterious ‘cloud’.

Developmentally, a student may not have grasped some of the concepts necessary to understand or link these concepts of private vs public information sharing to a cyber setting. I believe it is important to recognise this, and try our best as educators to enable our students to explore “Cyber Security and Awareness” in a way and at a level that suits and is beneficial to each individual.
