Unit 2 – Task

Task Unit2: Explain what you think are some of the key differences between cyber security, cyber awareness and cyber safety. To what extent are you teaching these in the classroom or do you think they should be taught?

In tandem with development of technology, cyber attacks are one of the most important issues that everyone need to understand. However, there are three concepts that many of us may be mistakes. They include cyber security, cyber safety and cyber awareness.

Even though both these concepts are related to cyber problems, there are some main differences between them. While cyber safety states the safe and responsible use for protection of personal information in virtual environment, cyber security emphasizes practical aspect meaning that it provides some vehicles such as firewalls, gateways, etc. to protect online user’s information from hackers and attackers. Meanwhile, cyber awareness is to focus on users’ behaviors and attitudes that are seen as necessary conditions to contribution to ensure the safety of information assets.

From my perspective, all concepts mentioned above should be taught in not only classroom, but also in workforce place. Indeed, the rapid changes of technologies in the digital era bring both benefits and drawbacks for most of us. If we do not have certain knowledge related to cybersecurity, we may face the risks of vulnerability of system and personal data. In fact, the financial consequence of cybersecurity breaches may lead a firm to be more instable.

To understand the scope of this unexpected result, I would like to refer the link below that highlights one of typical cases appearing in Vietnamese banking system in recent years.
