Some examples of codes from history or the modern day that are:
– binary code
– encoding and decoding words (letter-sound relationships in reading)
– morse code
– Braille and so much more.
A way that teachers and students could utilise this in the classroom and support their learning for encoding and decoding messages would be to have students do ‘Crack the Code Puzzles.’
By doing these types of puzzles, students build their critical thinking and problem solving skills by matching the symbols to their appropriate letter to decode the message. This is a fun and engaging way that students can build their problem solving and critical thinking skills, as well as learn about information safety and security.
