10 code of ethics statement for using technology in the classroom or profesional workplace

  1. Do not use computers to harm other users.
  2. Do not use computers to steal others information. Manipulating or destroying files of other users is ethically wrong. It is unethical to write programs, which on execution lead to stealing, copying or gaining unauthorized access to other users’ data
  3. Do not access files without the permission of the owner.
  4. Do not copy copyrighted software without the author’s permission. Copyright refers to a form of intellectual property that gives the author of an original work exclusive right for a certain time period in relative to that work, including its publication, distribution etc. Copyright is described under the umbrella term intellectual property along with rights and trade name. Always respect copyright laws and policies.
  5. Respect the privacy of others, just as you expect the same from others.
  6. Do not use other user’s computer resources without their permission.
  7. Use Internet ethically.
  8. Complain about illegal communication and activities, if found, to Internet service Providers and local law enforcement authorities.
  9. Users are responsible for safeguarding their User Id and Passwords. They should not write them on paper or anywhere else for remembrance.
  10. Users should not intentionally use the computers to retrieve or modify the information of others, which may include password information, files, etc..
